FAQ

Questions about mobile car electronics installation

OE Plus installs dash cams, backup cameras, Apple CarPlay and stereos at your home or office in San Francisco, Marin, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. A hardwired dash cam costs $250–$300 installed and takes about 2–4 hours. Here are answers to the questions we hear most.

Booking and the visit

How do I book an install?

Text (415) 578-0682 or email inquiry@oeplus.co with your car’s year, make and model, what you want installed and your ZIP code. There is no booking form. We reply with a price and the next open time, and we confirm the exact price for your car before booking.

Where do you do the install?

We come to your home or office anywhere in San Francisco, Marin, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. OE Plus is fully mobile, so there is no shop to drive to and no waiting room. We have a mileage charge for trips over 45 miles from San Francisco.

What are your hours?

We install Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and we are closed on Sunday. You can text or email us any time with your car and what you want installed, and we will reply with a price and the next open appointment.

Can I buy the dash cam or stereo myself?

Yes. You can buy the part yourself and we install it. Our recommended products page lists the dash cams, backup cameras and stereos we install, with links to buy them. Bought something already? Text us the model and we will confirm we can install it in your car.

Is OE Plus a VIOFO Authorized Installer?

Yes. OE Plus is a VIOFO Authorized Installer, with official VIOFO warranty support on the VIOFO cameras we install. We also install BlackVue, Thinkware, Garmin and Vantrue dash cams, and we have been installing car electronics around the Bay Area since 2014.

Do I need to be there during the install?

No. We just need the keys to your car. Hand them over and get on with your day, at home or at work. When the install is done, we can hand the keys back in person or leave them somewhere you choose, like your mailbox, and close the garage behind us.

How far ahead should I book?

We can usually book anywhere from two days out to a couple of months ahead, so you can pick a date that suits you. Text or email us your car and what you want installed, and we will reply with a price and the next open time.

Where do you need my car parked, and can you work in the rain?

Your car can be parked on the street, or in your garage if there is enough room to work around it. If it rains and the car can only be parked on the street, we may need to reschedule your install for a dry day.

How do I pay?

We accept cash, card, Venmo, Zelle, PayPal and Apple Pay, so you can pay whichever way is easiest for you. We confirm the exact price for your car before booking, so you know what you will pay before we arrive.

Do you guarantee your installation work?

Yes. Our installation labor is guaranteed for one year. If something goes wrong with our work in that time, we come back and fix it at no charge. If the equipment itself fails, which can happen with any electronics, we charge a small fee for the return visit to fix it.

Prices and travel

How much does car electronics installation cost?

Typical OE Plus installed prices: a hardwired dash cam $250–$300 (front) or $350–$500 (front + rear), a backup camera $300–$500, an Apple CarPlay retrofit $450–$600, and a new stereo $200–$500. Prices were updated November 2026, and we confirm the exact price for your car before booking.

Do you charge for travel?

We drive to you anywhere in San Francisco, Marin, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. We have a mileage charge for trips over 45 miles from San Francisco. Text or email us your ZIP code with your request, and we confirm the exact price before booking.

Do you recommend the parts?

Dash cams

How long does a dash cam installation take?

Most dash cam installs take about 2–4 hours. A front-only camera is at the quicker end. Front and rear cameras, or adding an external battery pack, take longer because there is more wiring to route and hide. We work at your home or office, so you can get on with your day.

Will a hardwired dash cam drain my car battery?

A standard hardwire install turns the camera on and off with the car, so it does not run while the car is off. If you want continuous recording while parked, we recommend an external battery pack. It powers the camera instead of your car, which prevents parasitic draw on the car battery.

How much does dash cam installation cost in the Bay Area?

A hardwired front dash cam costs $250–$300 installed, and a front + rear system costs $350–$500. An external battery for parking-mode recording adds $150–$200. These are typical OE Plus prices, updated November 2026. We confirm the exact price for your car before booking.

Can a digital rear-view mirror work as a dash cam?

Yes. A digital rear-view mirror can double as a dash camera. It replaces your mirror with a screen that shows the rear camera view and records footage, so one device does the job of a mirror and a dash cam. Text us your car’s year, make and model and we will tell you what fits.

Does installing a dash cam affect my car warranty?

No. Installing a dash cam does not affect your vehicle’s warranty. We never splice, cut or modify any factory wiring or parts, and all of the equipment and wiring can be removed later, leaving your car exactly as it was before.

Why add a battery pack to a dash cam?

A standard hardwire install turns the camera on and off with the car. For continuous recording while parked, we recommend an external battery, which adds $150–$200. It powers the camera instead of your car, which prevents parasitic draw on the car battery.

Backup cameras

How much does backup camera installation cost in the Bay Area?

A backup camera costs $300–$500 installed at your home or office. The price depends on your car and where the picture will show: your car’s screen, a new stereo, or a mirror with a built-in monitor. These are typical OE Plus prices, updated November 2026. We confirm the exact price before booking.

Can you add a backup camera to a car with no screen?

Yes. If your car has no factory screen, we can often swap your rear-view mirror for one with a built-in monitor. The camera picture shows in the mirror when you reverse, so you get a backup camera without changing your dashboard. Text us your car’s year, make and model to check.

How long does a backup camera install take?

Most backup camera installs take about 1–3 hours. The time depends on where the picture will show: on your existing stereo, on a new aftermarket stereo we install, or on a replacement rear-view mirror with a built-in monitor. Text us your car and setup, and we’ll tell you what to expect.

Does installing a backup camera affect my car warranty?

No. Installing a backup camera does not affect your vehicle’s warranty. We never splice, cut or modify any factory wiring or parts, and all of the equipment and wiring can be removed later, leaving your car exactly as it was before.

Apple CarPlay and stereos

How much does it cost to add Apple CarPlay to my car?

An Apple CarPlay / Android Auto module retrofit to your factory screen costs $450–$600 installed. Replacing the stereo with a new Apple CarPlay unit costs $200–$500 installed. These are typical OE Plus prices, updated November 2026. We confirm the exact price for your car before booking.

Should I retrofit Apple CarPlay or replace my stereo?

If your car has a factory screen, we usually recommend a retrofit. Adding an Apple CarPlay module to the factory screen is more reliable than replacing the stereo with an aftermarket Android-based unit, and it keeps your dashboard looking original. For older cars without a screen, a new stereo is the way to go.

Do you install Android Auto too?

Yes. The module retrofits we install support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and so do most of the stereos we recommend. A few models are Apple CarPlay only, such as the Sony XAV-AX1000. Tell us which phone you use and we’ll recommend a unit that works with it.

Can you upgrade my speakers and add a subwoofer?

Yes. A speaker install costs $200–$400 per pair, and an amp and subwoofer costs $500–$700 installed. We can add Dynamat sound deadening to the doors during a speaker upgrade. Text us your car and what you want to improve, and we’ll recommend the parts.

How long does an Apple CarPlay or stereo install take?

Most Apple CarPlay and stereo installs take about 2–4 hours. The exact time depends on your vehicle and the type of install, whether that is an Apple CarPlay module added to your factory screen or a new aftermarket stereo. Text us your car’s year, make and model, and we’ll tell you what to expect.
